Cruising Destinations and Resources


North Channel of Lake Huron and Manitoulin Island
An outstanding Web site on one of the greatest fresh water cruising areas around. Documents an individuals cruising in this area over the past 10 years or so.

Baja Ha-Ha
A 750 mile cruisers rally from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas used by many to start extended cruises in the company of a large group—the goal is safety and a lot of fun with numerous stops along the way. Starts late October.

Caribbean 1500 (Cruising Rally)
The Caribbean 1500 is both a rally and a cruise in company from the US to the British Virgin Islands. Some 900 boats particiapte in the Caribbean 1500 in making their passage to the islands, making it a very special experience. Once the fleet arrives at Tortola, nightly awards parties will bring participants together to swap experiences and exchange cruising plans. The passage typically takes 6-10 days. Start is early November.

Atlantic Cup (Cruising Rally)
A great way to come home from the Caribbean! This year's event will take the fleet 840 miles from Tortola to Bermuda. The finish and awards party will be at the St George's Dinghy and Sports Club before sailing on to New England, Europe, or the Mid-Atlantic. Boats can join ARC Europe leaving from the same club. The start is early May.

The Islands of the Bahamas
A general, on-line guide describing the islands of the Bahamas. This is not a cruising guide but rather a tourism guide that gives good descriptions of each island and their personalities.

The Usual Suspects
Great site about a group of people who are cruising the Bahamas and Caribbean. "The Boat" describes how the bought a charter boat with annual reviews their 'investment.' Also, how they coped with hurricanes. "The Experiences" describes in detail many of the islands in the Bahamas and Caribbean.

Selecting a Cruising Boat (Mahina Expeditions)
Mahina has expiditions in the South Pacific. Their Web site has a good article about what to look for in an offshore cruising boat.

Mid-Life Cruising Sabbatical
Jim and Diane discuss their 31 month cruise aboard their Endeavour 40, "Down Time". They go into detail about the cruising life, the decision to go, money, the boat, equipment, etc.

The World Cruising and Sailing Wiki (an online world cruising guide) has been established so that all cruisers around the world can have free access to as much information on cruising around the world as possible with information on Countries, Immigration and Customs procedures, world ports, navigation and approaches, marinas, anchorages, ocean passages, maritime warnings, boating tips, etc. Cruisers are encouraged to freely contribute and thereby help to build a great reference resource for the benefit of all cruisers that are sailing around the world.

A variety of in depth weather models where you can get projections for as far as 10 days out. To see the big picture of moving troughs and ridges, look at the 500mb model. Continental U.S only

One of my ablsolute favorites. Play with the controls and toggle features on and off—especially with a strom rolling through. Click on RADAR anf then turn on STORM TRACKS :-)
