I have an E40 and I need to get behind the cabinets to the Toe Rail in a couple of different places. I have the galley on the port side and a freezer and locker on the port side. Has anyone removed any cabinetry and can share some insight in to the best method. I can't tell which screws are holding them together and which are holding them in place. Does the face of the cabinet come off or does the entire section come out as a unit? Thanks

Jim,
I have an '81 E40 and have removed my cabinets in the galley which is on the port side. I have a vertical section that covers the fuel fill, vent & water fill. Attached to that (going aft) I have a set of overhead cabinets. I removed the vertical section by removing the screws that go from the overhead cabinets into this vertical section and then the screws which are screwed to the partition between the galley and the overhead cabinets. The vertical section came out in 1 piece. I supported the overhead cabinets as I removed the vertical section since the forward end of the overhead cabiets were supported by this vertical section. I then removed the screws from the overhead cabinets that go into the bulkhead at the rear of the galley (wall that seperates the galley from the rear aft head). This section also came out as 1 piece. This left the interior of the hull up to the deck to hull joint exposed. Hope this helps.

Jim,
I don't know the answer to your question, but I have the same arrangement on my '83 E-40 with refrigeration (no nav station or hanging locker) on the stbd side along the passage aft to the master cabin. As I am considering some changes in the cabin layout, I would appreciate you passing along what you learn about how the cabinets are hung. Good luck

Ok here we go! Standing in galley facing port, left to right, cubbard, dish rack, spice rack. Keep in mind that all bungs(wood plugs covering screws) don't always have screws under them,;also all boats aren't exactly alike. Start by removing the hose covers(they run from the bottom of the cabinet to the conter top. You will have to romove some of the little moldings around its base. These may be prye up with a puddy knife,be careful not to break them. Remove the three bungs from the leading edge of the spice rack(screws should begoing into the bulkhead between the sink and sette.) Remove (2) .On the top of the cubbard(front face) there is (1) going in at a 45 degree angle, remove bung ,remove screw. Almost forgot inthe bottom of spice rack is A/C outlet CUT THE POWER OFF and remove..... Open the last door of cubbard and remove. On the door jam facing aft are three bungs, remove bungs ,remove (2) screws. Now you should be ready to lift it off. YOU WILL NEED HELP to remove it in one piece Remove te remaining two screws and it should come out... Just remember there could be some difference in models just go slow and feel your way through it.... best of luck ED..(working on SUGAR)
