Edson Pedestal Plate

My Endeavour (37.5-ft., 1981) requires a new 'Steering Floor Plate' (located on the underside of the cockpit). The original 'plate was manufactured by 'EDSON'; However, the manufacturer no longer produces the subject 'plate for this model vessel. Does anyone have knowledge where I may purchase such a plate, or obtain a paper pattern of same (so that I can fabricate the plate myself)? Also, has anyone had this problem, and what (if anything) should I be specifically aware of when installing it. Thanks in advance for your time/consideration(s).

From: Carl Hibbard Chgypsy@aol.comFrank,
Please advise if you have any of this plate or are just looking to make the pan portion, or just the cover plate ...or or....The original was one piece. The pan had the clearance hole for the rudder shaft, and as such was not water proof in that with the cover off any water would go into the engine cavity. Assuming that you may have to substitute you might want to think about making it two pieces. Do you have the original cover? If not, I believe the 10" Beckman deck plate can be substituted for the present one. Then construct the pan by using a plastic pan obtained at almost any discount store, the kind you put food into with the snap on lids Screw the lip underneath surface of the deck after cutting the round hole in it for the emergency tiller. Suggest that you take some silicone seal and seal the cut out through the cockpit floor to protect the plywood.
This would alleviate a lot of work trying to duplicate what is or was there. The Deck plate would give you a finished appearance, and no one will ever see what the actual tray looked like, and for that matter, care. If you need more food for thought I do have a couple of other ideas.

Not if Edson said they no longer made it unless you can find a scrapped out boat !
or obtain a paper pattern of same (so that I can fabricate the plate myself)?
Probably not , and that would be a lot of work to duplicate.

From: Mike Miller capnmike@coqui.neIf you mean the deck access plate, I have just replaced mine with a Rabud #10RW plate, which seems to fit well...available at most marine supply shops.

From: Jack Newell jnewell@pmc-mail.comHi Frank, I have not had this problem with my Endeavour. However on My previous boat a Ranger 33 I did have the problem. I took the old piece to a welding shop and they cut out a stainless steel one that will never fail. The total cost was about $125.00, I am sure you can find a local source to do it for you. Hope that helps.
