I found the following under the newsgroup rec.boats.cruising about the Perkins 4-108 engine. Since some Endeavours have/had this model, I thought it might be useful:

It might be worth noting that Perkins Engines (made within two miles of my house) are now owned by Caterpillar. Perkins in fact made a good part of the Caterpillar range for a long while. So in the US try your local Caterpillar shop for Perkins parts, and vice versa. Having the broken bit in your hand (Have you got a new one of these?) might help.

Another bit of Perkins info I found under rec.boats.cruising newsgroup:

I am in need of an overhaul kit for a older Perkins 4-154 in my Columbia 41. Does anyone have any leads on a good, affordable supplier? Or how about a good lead on a used 4-236

Phone 206-789-4600. Ask for Larry Stewart of Stewart's Marine Engine and Machine Works. He's got a few older engines in stock and parts for almost anything Perkins ever built. A genuine resource for Perkins owners.

I have a 42' Endeavour 1986 and need to replace several of the engine pullies due to currosion an pitting. The mechanic that was working on the boat could not find any replacement pullies. I am wondering if any one has a good source for parts for a Perkins 4-154 or if anyone else has expieienced a similar problem.

A good source for Perkins 4-108 parts.

Ask for Leo Caesar IV (they are all Leo Caesar's, the whole family). They had a good supply setup, and carry the Perkins manuals, do use charge cards, and UPS.

Dale,
Perkins parts are not too difficult to obtain. They have a web site from which you can obtain the distributor for your area. A quick call to them will reveal the local dealers.

Hmm, I think I just posted an answer to this in Cruising World, too...

Perkins was bought out by Detroit Diesel. You should be able to call your local Detroit dealer and have them order the manual for you.

If this doesn't work, Perkins still has (I think) a stand alone shop in Jacksonville, Florida. Ask to speak to Randy. He knows his stuff, and really helped when I was rebuilding Ruffian's 4-107.

If that doesn't work, call Westerbeke. They used the 4-107 & 4-108 with different injection pump and exhaust manifold under their name, and painted them red. Otherwise, they are internally the exact same engines... Good luck

We HIGHLY recommend Trans Atlantic Diesel in White Marsh, Virginia. We blew a high-pressure line and fuel injector en route to Norfolk, and the owner met us at his shop on a Sunday night at 10pm so that we could pick up a new fuel injector!

I have an Endeavour 42 with a Perkins 4-154 but both of the above seem to have a good stock or access to parts for all three Perkins marine diesel engines. Good luck.
