I'm looking for info regarding the "CAV" fuel filter on my 37' Endeavour. It is first inline after the tank and before a Fram filter and the filter on the Perkins. There is no model number etc. Need info to replace cartridge. Is this also a water separator?

The CAV filter you are refering to being first in line from the tank should have an entirely aluminum cast 3 piece housing. The top housing looks like the one on your primary filter after your mechanical fuel pump on the stbd side of the engine. By the way NAPA has a filter for this too....as you note yoyu were using a Fram.

In any case this is a dirt and water seperator, and does not have an element inside, it is a centrifugal arrangement that does work. If you take it apart be careful of the square cut orings, they could be a bear to find new, re lube with vasoline. The center through bolt holds the whole arrangement together.

Re the fuel filters I use on my Endeavour 37 Perkins 4.108 engine: I added the upper (first inline) filter/water separator No. CC51136 FRAM; the lower filter, which came with the engine, is No. CAV296 FRAM. Hope this helps.
