Repowering E43
Date: July 29, 1999 Hey all..... Date: August 1, 1999 I've seen an E-43 with a Yanmar engine. There was no sign of cutting or mods to surrounding structure. The Perkins must come out in managable pieces. I wouldn't give up my Perkins though! Date: August 22, 2000 I have repowered the Stargazer, an Endeavor 43, with a new Perkins. The old engine came out of the engine compartment and fit down the companionway without difficulty. We got it out of the main hatch without any difficulty. We repowered with the next size Perkins up. It fit very well since the motors get smaller as time goes by. I find that the extra power is very handy when powering into a sea. I am not sure if the engine mounts required any modification but the guy who did it 10 years ago is still around and I will ask him. What Perkins did you install? Did you have to modify the engine beds or mounts or did it literally just fit right in?

I repowered my Endeavor 43 1977 about 3 years ago with a 62 hp Westerbeak. It was installed through the back hall door to the engine room. Had no problems installing it. We did have to replace the prop and shaft. Shaft too short and prop wrong rotation. Because of the weight we used a crane to lift the engine out once it was in the main cabin. The old engine was removed by the same door. The cost was about $13,000 IN 1998. We have sailed our boat from Virginia to Panama and back with few engine problems other than dirty fuel. If I were to do it again I would have had the tank cleaned when I installed the engine. We did have to build a new engine bed when we installed the engine.
