I own a 1979 Endeavour 32 and had the throttle cable break. Does anyone happen to know what the spec's are on this cable? I am trying to save the trouble of running a messenger and it may be a week before I get back to the boat to remove the old cable. Thanks.

10 feet will work well, the ends are standard. There is a keeper that is located in the pedestal about a foot below the wheel that will have to be removed-it is held in place by a screw on the aft side of the pedestal. Even if you remove the old cable you will not need to pull a line, the cable is stiff enough to fish through. There will probably be a good bit of corrosion in the threads of the keeper holding screw, the bolts that hold the compass mount on, etc. Liquid wrench might help, but heat works real well. A plummers torch, (propane?) is great. Just get some white rustoleum or something like it to touch up or repaint any parts that get discolored. It actually is pretty easy to tape off the whole pedestal and spray paint it with some of the good spray cans that are made now. I agonized for quite a while before taking the torch to it - should have started out with heat! Have fun!

You can contact Edson if you still have the original steering system. They have all the specs. I'm sorry I don't have a contact number handy for them but they are easy to reach.

When you go to the Edson site on the net it asks you what type boat you have when you request their catalog. When the catalog comes it includes a spec sheet for that boat. Naturally I told them E32 and they sent that sheet - which lists all the special parts they carry for the E32 and their part numbers. The spec sheet does list the throttle cable and its part number. I'd give that to you now but unfortunately my Edson catalog and that spec sheet are on the boat, which is 6 hours of driving away from my house.

I'd suggest if in a major hurry that you just call Edson and tell them what type boat you have, and have them look up that spec sheet and thus part number and have them Fed Ex it to you. Hope this helps. By the way - my throttle cable/shift lever connection is very stiff and hard to use, and I'm having the local Yanmar specialist look at it this or next week to try to find the problem.

Rob,
I recently replaced both my shift cable and throttle cable. If you don't have a maintenance booklet from Edson you should call them and get one. It fully explains the replacement procedure. Don't buy your cables from Edson, they are way too expensive. You can get a comparable cable at a marine store.

Call Edson at 508 995 9711 and request "Pedistal Mounted Engine Control Installation Instructions" EB-99-396 also "Pedestal Steering Assembly" EB-204-3. I would also request one of their catalogs, it lists all the part for your helm and contains other helpful info.
