Adding a Deck Wash

Hi everyone,
I was just talking to Tom Gilbert about drains and through hulls on our boats, and ended up with several . . . questions. Maybe some of you have dealt with these and developed some interesting solutions.

Deck wash. If you've installed one, what intake are you using?

Obviously we'd like to NOT add another thru hull, but find a way to use the existing ones.

Skipper,
For my deck wash, I have been known to utilize a plastic pail. This has fewer moving parts and is mulit-purpose. I also have a hose bibb located in the aft lazzerate with fifty feet of hose for hosing down, but this consumes my fresh water supply. Good Luck,

Hi Paul,
No deck wash, but I think I'd tee off the galley drain or engine fresh water intake.

For a deck wash, I added a "Y" to the outlet for the head and added a pump to reverse the flow. Since the head is normally switched to the holding tank, that frees up the thru hull, unless we are offshore, in which case I'm not worried about washing the deck.

Greetings. My deck wash pumb solution might not appeal to everyone but it works well on my Endeavour 33. I installed the wash down pump in the anchor well and I have a reinforced house weighted on one end that I keep coiled in the well and drop over the side when I want to use the pump. I've seen the same kind of rig contained in a deck box. The distance from water to deck is about 4-5 feet, I'd guess, but the pump seems to be able to pick up the water with no difficulty.

I used the sea water intake to the head. This intake is now used for 3 things. 1.) intake to head, 2.) discharge from the shower (both 1 and 2 are connected to a secondary gate valve off one side of a tee connected to the through hull. Off the other side of the tee I have connected the intake to the wash down pump. The procedure is that while under way or at anchor the gate valve is open allowing use of the head and shower. Just prior to pulling up the anchor we close the gate valve, use the wash down pump. We then open the gate valve once we have the sails up or are under way.
