Hi Paul,
Thanks for managing this web site, its real informative.

I have a request. I have a 5kw Universal genset, and I need a solenoid for that unit. Of course they do not make them anymore. I would like to know if anyone has any information on where I might be able to get one. Thanks for any help you can provide

Hello Dayton.
Which solenoid do you need? Playing hunches as I do not know the year of your vessel or when the genet was installed If this is a starter solenoid try a Kubota tractor dealer. Universal which is now a division of Westerbeke (BTW; Westerbeke never built anything of their own) used Kubota as their primary source starting in the early 80's.

Please supply additional information as to your actual problem, particularly if this is a starter solenoid headache, as Universal did some unusual things: IE hidden circuit breakers not shown in the wiring diagrams.

Your Universal Genet if powered by the old Universal Diesel engine you may want to try a lawn mower supply / repair shop. Those Universals were built by Kubuta for the commercial lawn mower manufactures. Check out the engine block real good, and you might find "KUBUTA" stamped on there. The price is around half as what the marine suppliers charge. I have rebuild Universal in the past and always saved money for the exact same parts. Good Luck.
