Starter for Perkins 4-108
Date: November 4, 2002
From: Peter Gradeff gradina@innet.comHi Ed,
The starter on my 4.108 is similarly located. It is a Delco Remi 1107587 1K 22 NO LONGER MADE. A reputable Diesel engine shop in Tampa Florida indicated to me that that they can get me the current Delco replacement unit NA 000623, a gear reduction type, 12 tooth, for about $300.I purchased ARCO 12102 from Boat US Engine Parts Dep. for $200. I had them side by side with the original and they look identical. It comes with a solenoid. You should call 1-800 528 48 28 and talk to Riche. Most likely, the first one to need service is the solenoid; I carry now three spares as well as the whole starting unit, just in case...
P.S. Mine is E37 with a 50 hp, 4.108. I created access to the starter on the port side behind the drawers ....without that , working on the starter is not easy.

I have Hull # 1 of the E-40's and the 4-108 in mine has a:Delco starter model #1107587
Solenoid model is 8-975 (unsure if Delco).Go to automovtive store for these, same way with the alternator. If you want a larger one, try to find one for a police car ar ambulance. Junk yard are a good place to try.
