New Centerboard

A couple of years ago I started a thread about a replacement centerboard for my 76 E-32. I was looking for patterns or whatever information I could find. Sometime after that "oldthumper@istnet.net" and I started conversing about his centerboard that had recently broken. I think he finally had one made from 1/2" steel plate. I finally had one made for my boat, also out of 1/2" steel, and was trying to get back in touch with him during that time. My boat now has the board and is back in the water, but I haven't heard back from "oldthumper". I was wondering if you have a new address or know what happened to him. The information I got from him was a big help and I'd like to thank him. Also, as I was talking with a friend of mine about using the board, he was telling me that when he bought his Pearson 40, w/centerboard, he was told to let the board down until the weather helm disappeared and lock the board at that point. As he was telling me this, I thought about those E-32 owners who are complaining about weather helm on their boats. I wonder if any of those thought about positioning the board to remove that weather helm. Just a thought.

From: Jim Mcmordie jim.mcmordie@marconi.comI have made and added a new centerboard to my E-32. The new one is made from 1/2" steel. If Ken wants to get in touch with me I'll be happy to tell him all I know.

From: Scott Rhoads capt_scott@earthlink.netHello,
My name is Scott Rhoads and I run a boat yard in Tarpon Springs Florida. I am rebuilding and upgrading an Endeavor 32 for the new owner. One of the things I am doing is replacing the damaged center board. I have not been able to find any drawing of the board and would like to see some if you have them. I am also interested in moving the pivot pin up a few inches and making it a larger diameter. Have you seen anyone do this. Pro's or Con's?

From: Joseph Monteiro JoeMonteiro@netscape.netHi Paul,
I did a repair on our '76 E 32 centerboard a couple of years ago when we bought the boat. The pivot hole was elongenated and repair was long over due.The board is made of two sheets of one half inch resin board which are epoxied together and covered with fiberglass cloth. Think of Masonite except made of epoxy with a filler of some sort (non organic, there are no glass fibers or woven mat in this resin board material.
The original board's pivot was just a hole drilled through the board to remedy the wear I made a stainless puck which was glassed in.
I took a few pictures for my own future reference which are attached, from the tape measure reading of the width the other dimensions may be scaled.
