E35 Traveler Replacement

Has anyone with an E35 replaced the Nicro X-track traveller that came with their boat? I'm curious as to the method the track is attached to the seahood. Ours is through bolted, but I don't see any bolts below through the companionway hatch. I also wonder about the pillars on either side of the companionway, supporting the ends of the track. Are these metal, or what? Do I have to take down the headliner to get at the attchment points?

From: ken green GREENLEG2@aol.comI REPLACED THE TRAVELER SYSTEM ON MY "35" TWO YEARS AGO WITH SCHAEFER COMPONENTS. THE SYSTEM IS THRU BOLTED AND I HAD TO CUT THE HEADLINER ON PORT AND STARBOARD TO GET TO THE NUTS AND WASHERS. THERE WAS NO BACKING PLATE . I USED A PIECE OF TEAK TO COVER EACH INCISION AND SCREWED EACH ONE OF THEM INTO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE DECK USING SIX SCREWS PER PIECE OF TEAK.
PRIOR TO REPLACING THE SYSTEM MY WIFE FOUND THE TRAVELER CAR EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MOVE. AFTER THE NEW SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED SHE TRIED TO USE THE SAME AMOUNT OF MUSCLE TO MOVE THE CAR AND ALMOST FELL ON HER @@@ BECAUSE IT WAS SO EASY TO USE WITH MINIMAL AMOUNT OF EFFORT . HOPE THE INFO HELPS

I replaced the traveler on my E35 several years ago . It was expensive but it has made a tremendous difference in sail adjustment even under load . I replaced the entire system , going all Harkin .I had to remove some of the panels in the head liner to get to the bolting. As I remember the most difficult part of the job was cutting thru the 5200 sealant holding the tract in place . I went with the low profile tract and it has worked fine, not to mention it is less expensive. The liner and the teak strips and staples all came off with no damage, but take your time and be careful. I used monel staples to reinstall the panels and recomend that you at the very least use stainless staples.
If you have any questions that I may be able to help with send me an email.
