E33 Halyards

I have an Endeavour 33 (1984) which I purchased this past winter. I have fixed a variety of small problems, but I have discovered a new one for which I could use some advice. I have a halyard which goes up the mast, but not down. The halyard for the main comes out the rear of the mast and there are 2 channels in the front of the mast. The port halyard is fine, but the starboard halyard disappers inside the mast. I went up the mast to check it out and could not see anything in the channel and could not feel anything inside. The Halyard is jammed, I can't budge it down and I can't pull it up. Suggestions?
