E32 Rigging

In response to Rob Chamberlain's request for a sail plan and rigging spec I wrote:

Rob,
The sail plan I have only shows mast height and the dimensions for J, I, P, and E, but none of the other information you ask for. Wire sizing is pretty standard (I could get that for you) and the angle of the spreaders is determined by a "line perpendicular to the wire rigging". Our attachments at the mast appear to perpendicular to the mast. As for tension, there have been a number of articles on tuning. It's a farily standard process and is done in two steps: 1) static (even tension without sag, straight mast) and 2) dynamic (final tensioning underway on both tacks-usually done on the first sail of the year).

We've re-rigged our boat and retune it annually. It's not that difficult, and if you have some time, can really effect the performance of of even and Endeavour. If you need more help, I'd be happy to talk to you about it. In the meantime, I've asked the other E32 owners to respond to you question--let's see what they say.

Paul,
I read that the sail plan has all the specifications for the rig, ie. wire size, angle at spreader, suggested tuning, etc. If the sail plan does in fact contain this information then I would need it in a format I could read. If you could scan portions and send with email that would be fine.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by a sail plan. I DO have my PHRF certificate from the CBYRA. It is also my understanding that E32s had two or three different mast heights, so your particular mast needs to be measured. My measurements are:

Any other sail specs could be supplied by a sailmaker. These are all the specs North Sails needs to make my sails.

I copied this out of the Owner's Manual from my E32. All measurements are noted as pin-to-pin.

Hope you find this useful.
