From: Ed Hamilton ehamiltn@bright.netWe have a 42 foot 1990 model which we bought about 2 1/2 years ago. It had no screens in the portholes, but I later found the frame from one of the screens. According to the information I have the manufacturer was Bomar, but when we contacted them they said they didn't make any ports or screens of the dimensions we gave them.
The screens are approximately 10 3/4 X 4 1/2" (outside dimensions). Does anyone have a source or any suggestions? I need 12 of these.

From: Jerry Bernath bernathj@pocketmail.comGreetings from E42 BiBi.
My 88 has Bomar ports and screens of the type you are looking for. I contacted Bomar a year or so ago and confirmed that the ports were their brand. I would retry talking to them. I suggest whoever you spoke to was not faniliar with their products 10 years ago. I was looking to obtain replacement rubber seals & one entire port but they do not provide the replacement rubber nor make our size port any longer. Suggestion for you. These frames are no big deal for a screen shop to make. The Al channel is available, I think, at ACE hardware and any good welder should be able to duplicate the one you have.

From: Jerry Bernath bernathj@pocketmail.comBomar stated that there was no way to replace the rubber on these 1980 series ports. Apparently it is how they are attached during the manufacturing process. The new 1990 ones can be replaced because they were designed that way.
I wanted to replace mine due to leaking but I found another solution. If this is your issue, purchase Silicon Grease from a bearing shop that is used to soften the rubber seals on bearings. Costs about $12 for a small tube. It worked well for me. Softened the rubber which now seals the water out.

From: Kingdtk@aol.comIf your asking what I think your asking you can get the parts at most hardware stores. I think it is used for doors and windows.I think it is called trim channel and its a three sided aluminim extrusion. If I recall it comes in 4 or 8 foot lengths which would be enough for to fix 100 Endeavours. You also need a piece of stainless rod. The aluminum extrusion is three sided. Cut off about a 1/2 inch piece and drill a hole in the bottom and this will mount to the port frame with one screw or two small screws.
Drill a hole in both sides of the extrusion. The small stainless rod will pass through these two holes and the small hole in the threaded rod and knob assembly. The treaded rod will pivot on this rod inside the aluminum extrusion.
You will have to make a few until you find the right size where the threaded rod will pivot and latch the window correctly. Once you get one down the rest are easy. A Dremel tool is really handy to fine tune the cutting of the alumunium and to grind down the frame so the piece will fit flat.
I had about 8 or so of these on my ports until I finally got around to putting in new ports. But the Bomar (GRAY) Ports are garbage so I suspect it won't be to many more years before I am doing this again.

From: Michael Gendel mgendel@worldnet.att.netAll,
With all due respect to my friend, Jerry, Bowmar, Nee: Pompanette, still makes most of the ports, at least last year they were in their catalogue. They are their 3000 series. I know, because I bought a complete set through Boat US for my E42 renovation. (Not cheap but look great) However, they do not make the main salon fixed ports any more, the ones w/ the 45 sweep. I was lucky (for once) to get the last of the lot. I would guess for a big enough order, they would make a run. In fact, for one of the salon ports I had to send my old ones, and they took the best and returned a renewed one, a very good job (also not cheap), except that they did not have the alum extrusion for the edge of the lens that hides the mastic. For some reason #145 orginal salon ports did not have this extrusion at all, and that was really ugly. Curtins should help with the 3 to 1 new mismatch.Regarding customer support at Bomar in N.H. management has them pretty well programmed, IMHO. In my case I had to find my way around them to some of the old salts. So you can get response, but you have to be firm and persistent. I will say, to their credit, after a bit of tooing and frooing, they stood behind a problem with a stripped thread in one of the ports and will be sending me a unit that has all threads proper.
Has anyone experienced this problem? The port opening cuts and the hatch opening cuts seem to be too large. The port openings barely have 1/8 inch to support caulk between the gelcoat the frame. And on my boat the hatch opening could have easily been 1/2" narrower all round. Very little place to support caulk. Is this just on my boat? Cheers.

From: Bob Blomquist firemanbob55@netzero.comI have the plastic Bomar ports on my boat and all are in fair to poor condition. Every thing from broken hinges to what have you...I had Bomar send me a catalog and was unable to find the ports that I have. Maybe I'm going blind but the ones in the catalogue all looked a little different. I dont have the ones with the drain holes in them. Any ideas out there .????

From: Brab Munro watermusic@adelphia.netBob, assuming that a 79 has the same ports as my 81 I replaced all of mine. The Bowmar part numbers that I ordered were P0512-WS-10# Port, Cam, 5x12x1 and P0714-WS-10# Port 7x14 Company Beckson Marine 165 Holland Ave Bridgeport Ct 06605 Tel 203-333-1412 If you wish you can possibly have them refer to their invoice #D1 162800 dated 03/24/03 to me just to insure you get what you need. If you plan to replace the whole unit good luck. It’s almost impossible to get them out without destroying the interior teak. I decided to do a complete replacement and ended up replacing all the interior teak, what a job! Let me know how you make out.
Bob, in addition to the invoice my order number on their packing list was 116119-00. Also if you have to order extra gaskets make sure you get them “Pre-Formed” Hope this helps.
