Date: December 6, 2000
From: Dale West Dale.West@MW.Boeing.comNeed help....Looking to add a doger to my E37. Local canvas makers of little help. Does anyone have an older doger to pattern off of or, know of a canvas maker who is familiar enough with the boat to make one and ship to me. Please let me know.

We have a 1979 37' in Oceanside, CA and have a very nice dodger. There is a woman, Lane, in the harbor that does great work. She could help I'm sure if you could install.

I believe that the canvas shop at JSI in Florida (1-800-234-3220) has the pattern for that dodger. By the way, you will find that the cockpit is so long that it is almost impossible to see clearly through the dodger windows...which being that clear plastic need to be replaced every so often, at large expense...since you can't really see through it anyway, we sail with the dodger down, and the last one we had made we specified "no windows"....thereby saving a good few bucks. Also note that the dodger blocks air circulation to the "aft cabin" on A-plans, which is marginal at best, as the hatch there ends up under the dodger...we had a small area of the dodger rimmed with a zipper so it can be opened up in that spot for
ventilation...

Hello Dale,
I think you will find that no one will make a dodger in the blind, that is without having the boat there to measure. The problem is not the canvas work but the tubing.I had heard of one outfit in Florida that was doing so, and will research if you like. The shipping would be prohibitive do to the sizes and lengths of the tubing etc., it would go motor freight.
Assuming that you have not already done so I'd suggest that you wander the docks at various marinas checking on boats with Dodgers getting names and addresses of who made them.
Sailrite; http://sailrite.com (Indiana) 800-348-2769. Had kits for both dodgers and biminis. I believe that they have both aluminum and stainless tubing available, but for shipping purposes it was not not all one piece tubing. Good luck.

I live in Norfolk, VA and own an E37 Ketch rig. I'm in the process of having a dodger made as well as a helm and winch covers. Contact Jo at Canvas and Cushions, 16 W. Queens Way, Hampton VA 23669, (757) 722-4833. She has been doing this for a very long time and has won many awards for her quality work. She comes highly recommended by everyone in the boating arena here in Hampton Roads. By the way, my boat is not the first Endeavour she has worked with.Let me know what happens. I'd also like to hear about your boat, where you live etc. I hope this helps and Happy Holidays. I look forward to hearing from you.
