Replacing Chainplates on an Endeaovur 43

For those concerned about how to replace the chain plates in an E-43, the process can be handled on your own. The key is removing the cabinets to gain access to the nuts on the carriage bolts.

There are several (about 12 or less as I remember) self tapping screws that hold the cabinets. Each starboard and port cabinet is itself a single unit. They key is in locating the screws, as they are hidden beneath the trim pieces. Generous amounts of 5200 sealant covers the plates and collects moisture which entrapped can lead to crevasse corrosion.

Replacement occurred two at a time from both sides of the boat, tack welding the new plate to the old and then drilling or punching the bolt holes. Be sure to replace all the carriage bolts, too.

Have fun. Don, former 43 owner of Sirius Endeavour
