E43 Chain Plates- where can I get them?

I have an E43 and I am looking to find where I can order original chain plates so I don't need to have a machine shop fabricate them for me. Anybody have any ideas. Aloha

Dear Endeavour Forum,

I've remodeld the head area with a new formica counter and new shower/faucet mix for the sink. I have changed the cabintery a bit to make access to the chainplates easy and quick. Anyone who might be interested in any of these changes and upgrades, they can contact me.

We are leaving for a long term next may. Reading horror stories about chainplates I was wondering if somebody had problems with that on Endeavour boats. Thanks.

I'll send out your question to the entire membership but during the years here at the forum I haven't heard about it being a major issue. I do remember one owner having a problem however.

In any case, for anyone planning on extended cruising, it's probably a good idea regardless of the boat to have them professionally checked. Also beefing up the rigging, etc. should be seriously considered. Most people will at least replace all the standing rigging and go up a size as well.

Given the general age of the boats I'd also look closely at all the mast fittings.

I have a endeavor 43 1978, have sailed her from Va to Panama and back and the only problems I had with chain plates was I had to recork them when they started to leak from the large amounts of rain in Panama. Have fun.

I've never had any structural problem with the chain plates but once when I spent some time with the lee rail in the water, they began to leak. I remedied this with a product called "Flowable Silicone" which may be purchased for about $3 at one of the franchise auto parts shops. It has the consistency of a thick syrup and will sag into small openings. I cleaned out the old caulk and ran a new small bead around all the chain plate openings. The problem has not reoccurred for four years now.

Jean-Louis,
I imagine your concern. We have a E38 center cockpit, so the yachts are different, but we have had absolutely no problems with chainplates. No shearing or loosening. I had a leakage problem once at the port chainplate and had to tighten the chainplate bolts and filled some space with silicon. With best regards,

Jean Louis,
I have an E-42 that was in Hurricane Hugo about 11 years ago. After I took her back to Florida for the rebuild, we left Tampa and sailed to Key West. Going into the seas, we took on green water over the bow and the chain plates leaked like a sieve. I got the boat to Marathon, Fl and had a boat yard prepare a fiberglas patch and install it around the deck fitting. The guy that did the repair work commented that the original factory installation of the deck to the hull was kind of sloppy and the hole was too big at the chain plate. I have had no leakage since then, and have had several offshore trips. If I can be of further help, please email me.

No problem with ours, but our surveyor did mention it is something to watch for in endeavours, the cure is costly from what I am told.

We just spent 5,000 replacing and rebuilding a custom mast step, also very common repair. Our new step is made from fiberglass a part of the flooring had to be cut and also remanufactured.

It came out great but what a job, our renovation of this 17 year old E35 is almost complete. Next step is the windows and hatches.

Any advice on these????????

Try Rig Rite, Inc.. I seem to recall seeing chainplates for sale there.
